Another AWFS Show In The Books

The woodworking community gathers every two years to share and unveil the latest in high-tech and manual woodworking. Its a great few days and weve enjoyed sharing what we saw with you.

Here’s a quick recap:

One of the more popular stops at the show is the Fresh Wood Student Competition. It is always inspiring to see the latest and greatest woodworkers create. The entries ranged through lamps, tables, chairs and cabinetry. Some are traditional, while others are whimsical. They all show the future potential of woodworking. Shown is the work of just one of this yearswinners, Maggi Wong from College of the Redwoods.

CNC Bit Sets from Freud

High tech was represented by CNC bit sets for small-shop woodworkers from Freud. A handheld CNC router that selfcorrects cuts using a cambered mechanism of Shaper Tools and a scanning accessory to prepare CNC creations for Next Wave Automation.

Veritas Combination Plane

And for the traditional woodworker, look for new combination plane from Lee Valley/Veritas, built on the tradition of the Stanley 45. And for something to add to your table saw, a new Miter Fold dado set from Rockler lets you cut a box from a sheet of veneered plywood, fold the piece into shape and leave the veneer intact. Pretty cool!

This year’s show had something for everyone. We learned about some new products that will be out in the coming months and can’t wait to share them with you. Keep watching!
